Used buses for sale | Call 516-333-7483 | Are buses functionally equivalent to oversized cars?

Today large cars are usually called an SUV or Crossover. They can never be similar to a bus even if they can carry the same number of passengers. SUV's can often carry up to 9 passengers and some crossovers cars can carry as many. But the fact is that both are luxury cars. They are expensive and not designed to withstand the heavy wear and tear that a passenger transport vehicle would be subjected to. A bus on the other hand is designed for heavy duty group transportation and its used version can be owned for $15,000 to $35,000 whereas new luxury cars will be much more expensive to buy. Moreover, it is legally prohibited to use a car for public transportation.

A 15 passenger shuttle bus for sale can seat up to 14 passengers plus the driver. The fact is that a bus even fully loaded can still fit a substantial additional payload. Often these vehicles are loaded with substantial other household items. On the other hand passengers get cramped inside a car, SUV or Crossover especially considering the low ceiling. Once its seating capacity is full, it cannot take in more passengers and it has little or no room for groceries, bicycles, carriages, camping equipment which can be easily accommodated by a bus. So if an SUV is designed to seat 9 passengers then it will seat only 9 people and not more. However if a used minibus for sale is designed to seat 15 passengers it can still take in more cargo to meet almost any demand. It should be noted that 10 large people along with their luggage can easily weigh a ton or more. Buses are always equipped with powerful engines to compensate for the additional weight. However, modern SUVs and Crossovers are typically available with only one engine choice.

Shuttle buses operate with either diesel and gasoline engines. Whereas cars mostly operate with hybrid or gasoline power with only rare exceptions because there are more cars needed to transport people and their gear than by buses. The carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides the millions of cars emit are creating an environmental disaster because too many cars emit too much carbon can severely impact the local and world environment.

A car can easily navigate busy streets, narrow lanes and bylanes because it has a small turning radius. Though a shuttle bus for sale is smaller in size than a coach bus, its turning radius is smaller than a coach bus but somewhat more than a car. Thus in terms of maneuverability a car performs better than a bus in urban areas.

All cars no matter how big they are have only 4 wheels. Whereas most shuttle buses for sale have dual rear wheels. This feature gives more stability to the bus as it takes in more passengers. The additional tires can bear the additional weight and also prevent the vehicle from rollovers. Mathematically it reduces the center of gravity thus increasing the overall safety and stability of the vehicle.

A bus can carry a lot of personal luggage of the owner and his/her family. While it can also carry a lot of passengers but not the same amount of other cargo. Luggage on a public transportation bus is limited to hand bags, backpacks and suitcases. Anything more is strictly not allowed. In short it can be rightfully said cars have less passengers and luggage whereas buses can handle more passengers and more luggage.

Research has found that cars are associated with more bicycle and pedestrian accidents whereas buses can sometimes lead to pedestrian deaths but rarely claim the life of cyclists.

Cars provide a great deal of independence and on demand transportation whereas buses run on fixed schedules and on fixed routes unless they are utilized for personal use.

There is very little space for passengers to move around inside a car. However, they can easily stand up and  walk around in a bus. Due to this unique feature a bus is the most preferred vehicle for long distance and group transportation.

Many people in the United States have modified buses into recreational vehicles where they can live and travel almost anywhere and even go on long vacations touring across America or Canada. Such vehicles are often called recreational vehicles, RV’s,  Schoolies and mobile homes. However, people can neither live in a car, nor take in extra passengers and luggage once it's full. When buses are used as private vehicles they can be modified into a living room on wheels with all the amenities required for comfortable living like bed, couch, refrigerator, microwave oven, kitchen, cabinets and more. Such a feature is not available in cars no matter how expensive they are.

Buses have a high towing capacity and can be easily equipped to tow to a camper or trailer. Whereas it will be unwise and unsafe to hook a big luxury SUV to a camper trailer. Buses on the other hand are designed to tow camper trailers and perform better than cars or SUVs in general for towing.

Buses and cars are built for specific purposes, have their own limitations and cannot replace each other.
